Parent Participation Program
The Parent Participation Program policy requires that each family contribute 25 hours of service per school year. This commitment can be fulfilled in numerous ways. You may help out in the library or sign up to assist teachers and staff with projects. In addition, our annual events such as the Benefit, PTF sponsored events, and field trips are supported by parent volunteers. Watch for volunteer requests in the weekly E-newsletter.
Every family is responsible for completing these hours, and, at the end of the school year, any family who has not fulfilled all their hours must pay the difference between the hours worked and the 25 hour commitment at a rate of $15.00 per hour.
We recognize that some families are not able to fulfill their participation during school hours; therefore, there are tasks that can be completed at home. Grandparents and family friends can also earn family hours. Other ways to learn about volunteer opportunities include:
- Check your emails. The Thursday Folder email will have a section where opportunities will be posted. Your child’s teacher’s emails will also provide opportunities. Throughout the year, there are ongoing opportunities in the library and for lunch supervision.
- Attend PTF Meetings (listed on the enclosed PTF flier) to learn about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities; receive one hour for each meeting attended.
- Be on the lookout for information about major events such as the annual Benefit, ECE Art Show, and Jewish holiday celebrations/ceremonies such as Passover, which typically need a lot of parent assistance.
The Parent Participation Program has been an important part of Shalom School for years and has helped to increase family involvement, build community, enhance parent engagements, and strengthen our school.
